Website for a hotel: how to get direct bookings
TL;DR
A guest chooses a hotel by its photos, rooms and location, and then looks for a way to contact it directly. I explain what a hotel or guest house website needs: room cards, a booking form, honest photos, a map and language versions, and what such a website costs.

A guest chooses a hotel with their eyes: photos, rooms, location. The website should show this honestly and give a clear path to booking directly. Below is what I build into such a project.
Why does a hotel need its own website if rooms sell through booking platforms?
Booking platforms are a separate channel, and there is no need to give it up. But there your hotel sits in a shared feed next to competitors. Your own website solves other tasks:
Direct contact. The guest writes to you and books with you, not through an intermediary.
Your own style. The atmosphere of the hotel comes through in photos, texts and design, not in a standard listing card.
Regular guests. Those who have already stayed with you find it easier to come back through the website than to search for the hotel all over again.
Where to send ads. Traffic from social media and ads goes to your page, not to a shared feed.
What should you show on the first screen of a hotel website?
On the first screen, the guest decides whether to scroll further or close the website. What I put there:
Main photo: a room, a view or the facade - the reason guests come to you.
Name and location: city, district, what is nearby.
Booking button: "Book" without searching the page.
Contact: a phone number and a chat button.
More on how to put this block together - see the article The hero section: what belongs on the first screen.
How do you present the rooms so that a guest can choose theirs?
Each room type gets its own card:
Photos: the whole room, the bed, the bathroom, the view from the window.
Specifications: floor area, capacity, bed type, amenities.
Price: exact or "from" if it changes. When it is worth showing the price - see the article Prices on your website: show them or hide them.
Booking button: on the card, with the room type already selected.
If the list of rooms is short, a neat grid of cards on the home page is enough. A separate page for each room is needed when the range of room types grows and the guest wants to compare them in detail.
Does a hotel need an online booking module?
Not at the start. A module with a room availability grid means connecting the website to the hotel management system, and that is already a complex project. For a guest house or a small hotel, a "Request a booking" form is enough:
Check-in and check-out: when the guest plans to arrive.
Guests: adults and children.
Room type: if the guest has already chosen.
Contact: name and phone number.
The request goes to the hotel's work chat, and the administrator confirms the booking personally. Which fields to keep and which to remove - see the article Website enquiry form: which fields you need and which get in the way.
How do you make hotel photos that guests will believe?
Photos sell a room better than any text, but only honest photos:
Real rooms: no other hotels' interiors and no stock pictures. More on this in a separate article: Website photos: your own or stock images.
Bright shots: natural light, a tidy room, no distorted proportions.
Details: the bathroom, the view from the window, breakfast, common areas.
Guest reviews: real, from guests who have agreed to it, no made-up ratings.
Photos on a hotel website are heavy, so I compress them and load them as the visitor scrolls. Why this matters - see the article Why Your Website Loads Slowly and What to Do.
What should you tell guests about the hotel's location and services?
A guest chooses not only a room but also a place. On the website I show:
Map: the hotel's location and what is nearby - the centre, sights, transport.
Getting there: from the airport and the railway station, whether there is a transfer.
Services: breakfast, parking, laundry, city tours.
House rules: pets allowed or not, booking cancellation terms.
How a hotel can work for its own city in search - see the article Local SEO: how to rank in your own city.
Which languages should a hotel website be in?
In the languages of your guests. If guests come to you from other countries, you need an English version at least for the rooms, contacts and the booking form. If your guests are from Uzbekistan - Russian and Uzbek. More in the article Does Your Site Need an Uzbek Version.
I make language versions as full pages with proofread text, not machine translation.
What are the prices for a hotel website?
The price depends on the scope, not on the industry:
Landing page - from $190. A guest house or a small hotel: rooms, photos, a booking form and contacts.
Multipage website - from $490. A hotel with room and service pages, language versions and a booking form.
Complex project - on request. An online booking module, payment on the website, integration with the hotel management system.
I fix the price before the start for the agreed scope. How a landing page differs from a multipage website in terms of tasks - see the article Landing page or multipage website: what your business needs.

You received several commercial proposals for a website, and the totals differ a lot. Comparing only prices makes no sense - the word "website" covers very different scopes of work. I show what to check in a proposal, how to tell what the price includes and which signs are a warning.
