Quiz on a website: when it helps collect inquiries

TL;DR

A quiz is an inquiry form shaped as a short survey: a person answers questions about their task and leaves a contact at the end. I show how a quiz differs from a standard form, which niches it suits, when it is unnecessary, what to ask and what to give the person at the end.

Quiz on a website: when it helps collect inquiries - INSITE

A quiz is an inquiry form split into steps. Instead of a questionnaire full of fields, a person answers simple questions about their task and leaves a contact at the end. In some niches this is more convenient than a standard form, and in others it becomes an extra barrier. Below - how to tell whether you need a quiz.

What is a quiz on a website?

A quiz is a short survey on a page. A person picks answer options: what needs to be done, what scope, what wishes. On the last step they leave a name and phone number, and you get an inquiry that already describes the task.

A quiz can live on a separate screen, open from a button or sit right inside a page block.

How is a quiz different from a standard form?

A standard form asks for a contact right away. A quiz starts by engaging: a person answers questions about their task, and by the last step it is easier for them to leave a phone number - they have already put in effort and are waiting for the result.

For you, the gain is in the quality of the inquiry. A form brings a name and a number, a quiz brings a name, a number and a description of the task. Calling back with such an inquiry is easier. I wrote about which fields a standard form needs in the article Website enquiry form: which fields you need and which get in the way.

Which niches does a quiz suit?

A quiz works where the price depends on the details of the order, and it is hard for a person to put the task into words on their own:

Renovation and construction - type of space, area, type of work.

Custom furniture - what is needed, dimensions, materials.

Cleaning - type of cleaning, area, extra services. More about a website for this niche - in the article Website for a cleaning company: how to turn an estimate into a request.

Choosing a tour or a training program - wishes, budget, format.

When do you not need a quiz?

A quiz is an extra step if the task is already clear:

A simple service with a clear price - it is easier for a person to call or leave an inquiry in a standard form.

Emergency calls - when something has broken, a person will not go through a survey.

Complex projects - if the task cannot be described with answer options, a live conversation is better.

What questions should a quiz ask?

The questions should help you estimate the task and let the person answer without strain:

About the task, not the person - what is needed, not what your name is.

With ready answer options - choosing is easier than writing.

No extra steps - if an answer does not affect the estimate, the question is not needed.

A simple opening question - a question that is easy to answer without thinking.

What should you give the person at the end of a quiz?

A person does not take a survey for nothing - they need a result. It can be a price guideline, a selection of options or a call from a specialist with an estimate.

Promise only what you will actually give. If an exact price can only be named after measurements or clarifications, say honestly that you will send a guideline. I described how to show prices on a website in the article Prices on your website: show them or hide them.

Where should you put a quiz on a website?

A quiz works well on a landing page: a button on the first screen opens the survey, and at the bottom of the page it can sit in full. A person who came from an ad does not need to look for the form.

Keep a standard way to get in touch as well - phone or messenger - for those who do not want to take the survey. I wrote about how to put together a landing page for a service in the article Landing page for a service: which blocks you need and in what order.

How much does a website with a quiz cost?

A landing page - from $190, a multipage website - from $490, a complex project - on request. A quiz is built into the website as a separate block, and I put together its questions and logic for your service.

If you are not sure whether your niche needs a quiz, write to me - I will look at your service and tell you honestly.
